Day 3 and we’ve got a project organized!!  There are so many things we could do but with the time we have left, and in collaboration with the Barefoot artisans, fellows and staff, we have decided to work with the talented crafts men and women in the textiles and wood shops.

Analyzing existing products

We will be collaboratively developing new designs for the appliqué work used on shoulder bags, bedspreads and cushion covers. As well, we hope to develop new wooden closure systems for these textile products – in the wood studio of course.

In addition we will be designing the system around the standardization, and making of these products. In brief we hope to create master templates to improve the quality, develop communication method for transferring knowledge on the making of these products to the villagers who do the sewing, as well as capture the story of how the pieces are made through displays and labeling.

Our make shift design studio

Does this sound ambitious?  We’re up to the challenge! Looking forward to Day 4.

Defining project objectives and criteria in our makeshift design studio

Meeting the esteemed, brilliant, enigmatic, self deprecating Bunker Roy, the founder of Barefoot College.
What a pleasure. I think we were all a little star stuck.
